KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) potential candidate for the Lanang parliamentary seat and Dudong Branch Deputy Chairman Wong Ching Yong, 59, was flown from Sibu to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in a helicopter on Thursday evening.

Wong, an accountant, was accompanied by his wife and a medical doctor arrived at the SGH at 5.45 pm after an acid attack on him at about noon earlier on.

He was about to go to lunch and was walking to his car when two men on a motorcycle rode near him at Jalan Tuanku Osman in Sibu around 12.15 pm Thursday. One called his name and as he turned to them, one splashed what looked like acid on him, said Sibu Police chief Saiful Bahri Abdullah. This caused a burning sensation on his face, left arm and chest.

Wong rushed to the bookshop toilet nearby and washed with as much water as possible the liquid from him.
