KUCHING: Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian yesterday launched three books at Riverside Majestic Hotel here.

All three books – “Show Caves of Mulu”, “My Life’s Journey – An Autobiography” and “Ma’s Kitchen Stories” – are the collaborative efforts of Darrel Tsen Nyuk Choi and his children, Dianne S.C Tsen and Carlin E.M Tsen.

The third edition of “Show Caves of Mulu”  is about the caves of the Mulu National Park which have been declared as a world heritage site.

“My Life’s Journey – An Autobiography” by Darrel is about his life from his childhood days to the present time and documents his time working in the state civil service and life after retirement.

The third book, “Ma’s Kitchen Stories” by Dianne and Chai Pei En, is a collection of five recipes enjoyed by the Tsen family which have been handed down through the generations.

During his speech, Sim expressed his admiration of what the Tsen family did and encouraged others to do the same.

“He (Darrel) has contributed his whole life to Sarawak by being in the civil service and even after retirement, he’s still contributing.

“This is an example of what every Sarawakian should be,” added Sim in his speech.

“To write a book  goes beyond just putting thoughts and memories in writing.

“It takes a lot of time and you need to be dedicated, disciplined, and be physically and mentally prepared for it.

“It is a personal journey and not many have the opportunity to pen it down so you should feel blessed to be able to do something.

“It isn’t about trying to prove how great or rich one is, but it’s about having little personal things that others can learn from as well,” he added.
