MIRI: The 12th Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA) seized a total of 45,000 litres of smuggled diesel worth RM350,000 in a raid through ‘Op Libas’ at a premises in Jalan Permyjaya Utama, Tudan here on last Friday.

Tan Hiap Seng, said the operation was carried out after the premises was suspected of being a storage place for diesel fuel without valid permit. “During the raid, the team had to break into the premises by climbing the fence before breaking the padlock of the premises’ door which took them more than 10 minutes.

“However, the caretaker of the premises was believed to have escape through the back door of the premises as soon as they were aware of the presence of the authorities,” he said when contacted here.

Tan said inside the premises, they found diesel fuel tanker truck containing about 20,000 litres of the fuel and the result of the inspection inside the building also encountered a tank containing 25,000 litres of diesel fuel. He said based on the preliminary investigation the premises was believed to have been operating for more than a month.

“Initial investigation also found that diesel fuel was believed to be sold to oil palm estates around the area,” he said. He said the seizure was handed over to the Miri Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Ministry (KPDNKK) for further investigation.
