SIBU: The International Women’s Day celebration being organised by United People’s Party (UPP) Dudong Branch Women’s Section is scheduled to be held at three locations here tomorrow (8 March). “The three locations are Sibu Jaya Market (7.30am –8.30am), Farley Supermarket (9am) and Sing Kwong Supermarket, Salim (10am),” Organising chairperson, Kapitan Councillor Connie Loh said, adding that the purpose of holding this event is to emphasise the importance of women’s rights and encourage women to have more confidence in themselves. “For the younger generation, we would encourage them to pursue higher education, as for the full time housewives, we would also encourage them to participate in more social activities or learn more skills in order to be financially independent. “In this way, not only would they be able to help the family and lighten the financial burden of the family, it can also be a good example for the children,” Cr Lo said at a press conference held at Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) office here yesterday. Cr Lo added that Datuk Tiong Thai King and local community leaders will also be present at the event. Also present was chairman of SMC Datuk Tiong Thai King who is also Dudong Assemblyman. Through the event, she also hoped to emphasise the importance of gender equality, in the hope that women would receive more respect in terms of their rights.  Meanwhile, Cr Lo said that about 2,000 towels would be distributed to those present on the day of the event.  “We will also be holding a hair treatment session on that day,” said Cr Lo and urged the people to come to the event.
