SIBU: A wee-hour fire has caused nine residents to be homeless after razing two wooden houses to the ground at Jalan Kapor, Bukit 5 today (Oct 17).

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the residents as they managed to get out to safety in the 2.30pm incident.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah stations were despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, the fire was still raging and the extinguishing deed was performed to prevent the flames from spreading.

However, the team faced a minor setback as there was lack of fire hydrant and limited water resources at the scene.

Nonetheless, such difficulty did not weaken the morale of the extinguishing team and they managed to bring the fire under control at 3.10am.

Overhaul works were carried out until the fire was fully extinguished at 4.15am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
