KUCHING: There is no shortcut to success, said Sarawak Petroleum Contractors Association (Speca) Datuk Rahman Lariwoo in response to Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How’s remarks on the commercial settlement agreement between the state government and Petronas.

He congratulated the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government for its efforts and described the pact as a great achievement.

“It is bold of See to question the efforts of the government when in fact he was part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government previously and did not do this in the first place as promised in their manifesto.

“There is no shortcut to achieving something (success),” Rahman told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday (Dec 13).

He further hoped that all Sarawakians, regardless of different ideologies, would fight for the Sarawakians’ interest.

Last Tuesday (Dec 8), See said with the agreement, Sarawak had been short-changed because Petronas would continue to play its role as the national oil company with full authority and power over the overall regulation and development of the oil and gas industry in accordance with the country’s laws.

To this, the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg responded by saying, “Time will tell whether it is correct or not. We don’t have to argue because we have the rights already.”

He was speaking to reporters after attending a function in Kuching on Wednesday (Dec 9).
