KUCHING: Two shopping complexes were inspected for Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance on Monday.

The checks at Eco Mall in Samariang and E-Mart in Tabuan Jaya were led by district deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa with several officers.

The purpose was to ensure that all premises in the malls adhere to the SOPs such as providing attendance books and QR codes to be scanned via the MySejahtera app, checking customers’ body temperature, providing hand sanitisers as well as ensuring all visitors wear face masks and practice physical distancing.

Results of the monitoring found all tenants and the public complied fully with the SOPs and the shopping complex management’s readiness level was satisfactory.

Merbin also advised the mall management representative to assign staff at each entrance as well as provide directions or labels to avoid congestion and close contact among customers.

“Food courts and restaurants were also checked. The table layout should accommodate no more than two to four persons as well as allow for physical distancing of at least 1m.

“Usage of floor markers should be provided, especially at payment counters, and customers are encouraged to make use of cashless payments such as e-wallets, credit cards and others.”

He also advised premises owners and visitors to continue to adhere to the SOPs and practise the new norms.

“Children aged 12 and below as well as high-risk groups are encouraged to stay at home if there is no need to be out,” he said.
