KUCHING: The Sibujaya Carnival 2023 will kick off on Aug 26 until Oct 8, hosting various events and programmes for folk to enjoy.

The carnival, organised by Sibu Rural District Council (MDLBS) in collaboration with Amcorp Sibujaya Sdn Bhd, has entered its fifth edition and will be held at two locations.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this showed the commitment of the council to host the carnival with many programmes and events for people to enjoy during that period.

He was also impressed with the number of events that will be held at the carnival, especially with the sport events.

“From Aug 26 until Sept 3, the carnival will start with Sibujaya Bike Week 2023 at the Sibujaya Motocross Track and Sibujaya Sapphire East Business Precint Piazza from 8 am to 12 pm.

“There will be exhibitions, fun fair and performances by local artists as well,” said the minister during a press conference at Baultulmakmur Building 2 here yesterday.

Similarly, the Mountain Bike Fun Race 2023 and Sibujaya Bike Show 2023 will be held on Aug 31 in conjunction with National Day 2023.

The Grand Prix Sibujaya Extreme Motocross Championship 2023 will start from Sept 2 to 3.

Abdul Karim said such events will attract more than 100 participants joined by Malaysians as well as foreigners especially from Brunei and Indonesia.

“For the second part of the Sibujaya Carnival 2023, from Sept 16 until Oct 8, it will be held at the same location at Sibujaya Sapphire East Business Precint Piazza from 5 pm to 12 pm.

“Aside from exhibitions, fun fair and performances by local artists, there will be cultural performances such as silat performance, traditional dances, dart competition and many more,” he said.

Abdul Karim also said the carnival will also be an opportunity for local entrepreneurs residing in Sibu and Sibujaya to generate income.

In addition, the highlight of the carnival will be the fourth year of holding the Sibujaya Water Fiesta 2023 that will be officiated by Abdul Karim.

“Last year, I officiated at the water fiesta and there were thousands of people flooding the area where the festival was held.

“This is fun for all ages. So it will be after the Sibujaya Mini Marathon & Fun Run 2023 in the morning to the afternoon on Oct 7,” he said.

Abdul Karim added that the closing ceremony, at the carnival’s night concert, will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The ceremony and the concert will be held at Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre. In addition, entrance is free-of-charge throughout the period of the carnival.
