One new death brings toll to 91

KUCHING: One new Covid-19 death was recorded in Sarawak on Sunday (March 14), bringing the death toll to 91 so far.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily statement, on Monday (March 15) said the deceased was a 64-year-old local woman, who was admitted to Kapit Hospital for fever and breathing difficulties.

“The case tested positive after getting a rT-PCR screening on Feb 25. She was then referred to Sibu Hospital.

“The case’s health deteriorated and she was pronounced dead on March 14. The case had comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure and gout.”

Meanwhile, 251 cases were detected in the state on Monday, with the total number of now at 12,702.

“Of the total, 65 cases were recorded in Sibu, Miri (40), Bintulu (36), Betong (23), Kuching (22), Julau (21), Song (14), Kapit (eight), Subis (eight), Bau (four), Meradong (four), Sarikei (three), Samarahan (two) dan Serian (one).”

SDMC said 17 people had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.

“225 cases of those detected were individuals who had been given quarantine orders at the quarantine centre that had been set up.

“They consisted of 216 persons who had been identified as close contacts to positive cases and nine individuals who had just returned from high-risk areas.”

SDMC said 211 cases had recovered and discharged from hospitals throughout the state.

“Sixty patients were discharged from Sibu Hospital, Betong low risk treatment centre (35), Miri Hospital (34), Bintulu Hospital (28), Sarawak General Hospital (27), Sarikei Hospital (17), Kapit Hospital low risk treatment centre (five), Mukah low risk treatment centre (three) and Sri Aman low risk treatment centre (two).

“This brings the total number of cases that have recovered and discharged to 10,197 people or 80.28 per cent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.”
