KUCHING: The Rangers Corps Veterans Association (PVTKR) has proposed for a one-off allowance to given for veterans who are recipients of Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM).

The association’s president Mohd Melintang Abdullah said the medal is a recognition given to all military personnel who served in the Armed Forces.

“Those who received the PJM also contributed to maintaining the security and sovereignty of the country, especially during the era of the communist insurgency.

“I hope that the state government will consider this request, acknowledging the economic challenges faced by retired individuals due to increasing living costs,” he said.

He said this in his speech representing Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh at the association’s eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) recently.

He said the one-off allowance could provide significant assistance, making the lives of veterans more comfortable and dignified.

“Therefore, PVTKR members must continue to carry on the legacy of Sarawak Rangers and uphold the spirit of ‘Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban’,” he said.
