BETONG: It has been confirmed that only 20 per cent of each team is allowed vacation at any one time to ensure that the Betong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) have sufficient strength to face any eventuality during the monsoon season.

Its Operations Officer Henry Jugah said that various measures were taken to prepare for any possibility, especially flooding due to heavy rains.

“Among them in terms of membership, it has been enforced until the end of this year that only 20 per cent (of all members) are allowed to take leave for each team at any one time.

“This is because, we want to ensure that the strength of the members is always sufficient, especially the many areas that will be given focus,” he said.

This was said after the Betong BBP Family Day Dinner which was attended by Sri Aman Zone Three chief Di-Hatta Gobel and Betong Fire and Rescue chief Vincent Baling Yabi here, last Saturday night.

He explained that BBP Betong currently has sufficient strength to face any eventuality.

Among other preparations, added Henry, was updating all the equipment needed in monsoon operations.

“We have also completed the training series in Lubok Antu.

“I am confident that all members are 100 per cent ready in terms of external and internal endurance, both physical and mental,” he said.

He reminded the public to be more alert during the monsoon season by making early preparations.

“Keep all important documents in one place that is easy to carry when moving. Don’t play in the river when it’s raining heavily.

“If the rain does not stop, please go to a higher area and call the fire department for immediate help,” he explained.

Earlier in the family day celebration, more than 50 members of the BBP Betong family were involved, which was the main objective, namely to strengthen the relationship and rapport between firefighters’ families here.

In addition, it also aimed to celebrate the services and sacrifices of all employees throughout 2022.

The celebration was filled with a variety of leisurely programmes including the presentation of prizes for the weight loss challenge programme, a practical competency test competition and a cake cutting event.

Henry, in representing the citizens of BBP Betong, thanked the Member of Parliament for Betong Dr Richard Rapu who donated and lent his sincere help to launch the celebration this time around.
