Ops Ikrar nets 28 illegal immigrants

KUCHING: The enforcement unit of the state Immigration Department arrested 28 illegal immigrants during Ops Ikrar (Sapu) on 15 and 16 July.

The four-series operation, which was carried out separately, was led by Immigration Deputy Assistant Director Hairol Asuad and Assistant Enforcement officer, Rosliah Kassim.

Among the locations raided were four ‘kongsi’ houses at Tondong Baru, Bau, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and Lebuh Central 21B, Kuching where 281 individuals comprising 10 Malaysians,10 Myammar, 17 Indians, 21 Bangladeshis and 223 Indonesians were checked.

The 28 illegal immigrants comprised 13 Indonesians, one Bangladeshi, 10 Indians and four Myanmar who were suspected to have violated Section 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to present any valid identification and travel documents while in the country and overstaying in Sarawak.

At the same time, the enforcement issued four witness summonses to the employers’ representatives to assist in the investigation.

The arrested illegal immigrants were sent to the Immigration Detention Depot in Serian for further action.
