Over 14kg of drugs seized in February

KUCHING: Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and Customs enforcement personnel seized various types of drugs weighing 14.1kg last month.

This was revealed by Assistant Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis during a press conference on the One Stop Committee (OSC) monthly report today.

The report stated that 13kg of the drugs seized in February were syabu/methamphetamine; ganja, 1.1kg; ecstasy, 0.03kg, and ketamine, 0.001kg.

In January this year, 536 drugs in the form of pills were seized. Of this, 283 pills were Eramin 5; ecstasy, 223; and Nospan, 30.

The seizure in February is estimated to be worth RM1.27mil and the total seizure since 2020 is estimated at RM23.6mil.

Nine arrests were made in February under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and various property worth RM355,042.84 were seized from drug dealers under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

As of Feb 28, 1,901 People Under Supervision (OKP) had been monitored by the National Anti-Drugs Agency Sarawak. It was revealed that the number of OKP showed a 1.09 per cent decrease compared to January (1,922 cases).

Harden also revealed that 120 individuals were receiving treatment and undergoing rehabilitation at the Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre.

Throughout February, 1,202 individuals had come forward for treatment due to substance addiction in the form of alcohol and tobacco at the State Health Department facilities.

He also urged individuals involved in substance abuse to voluntarily come forward for treatment and rehabilitation at Petrajaya Health Clinic OSC.
