SARIBAS: The total prize of RM13,520 awaits participants of the 4th Edition of Saribas Mountain Bike (MTB) XC Challenge 2017 to be held in Debak from Dec 9 to 10. The tournament is being organised by Saberkas Saribas, PBB Saribas Branch in collaboration with Debak Laserlight Sports Recreational Club (KSRLL), Debak.
Competition coordinator Saiful Hanizam Suhaini, said the championship themed ‘Juh Ngohet Sikai’ is open to the public and extreme sports enthusiasts in the state and urged more participation not only from Betong and Saribas.
“I hope we get a lot of participation from outside Betong because it will not only produce cycling athletes in the local community, but also create healthy competition for every participant from various parts of the state,” he said. He said the tournament will introduce seven categories namely Men’s Open, Men’s Veterans (40 years and above), Men’s Junior (18 years and below), Betong Closed Open (Men), Betong Closed Veteran (Men) Men’s open individual time trial (ITT) and Veteran individual time trial (ITT). “The entry fee is RM60 for all categories and participants will also get free T-shirts, finisher medals and lucky draw tickets from the organisers,” he said.
The objective of the tournament is to foster a healthy lifestyle among youths in line with the government’s call to promote the Saribas Mountain Bike XC Challenge 2017 as an icon in Sarawak and to be included in the state tourism calendar in the coming years as well as discovering new talents in local riders there is.
