KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) needs to uphold its strong commitment to protect Sarawak’s rights as stated in the country’s four key documents.

Premier and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Federal Constitution (FC), Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Sarawak Constitution, and the Cobbold Commission as these crucial documents.

“We should base our efforts on the truths these documents present. They are the foundation of our party’s mission in Sarawak,” he said at the 2023 Kuching Zone PBB Special Convention at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre.

Abang Johari clarified that PBB’s defense of Sarawak’s rights doesn’t mean the state promotes regionalism. Instead, the party strictly follows the guidelines set by these four documents.

“PBB’s fight is rooted in these principles,” he noted.

Furthermore, he urged party members to stay united.

“Our duty isn’t personal. It’s for Sarawak. In the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), sincerity is essential. As the leading party in GPS, PBB should cultivate a culture of trust among its members,” he added.
