BELAGA: Petronas will continue to organise programmes which benefit the local communities of Sarawak as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Senior General Manager (Sarawak Asset) Annuar Ismail said these CSR programmes will be organised in collaboration with strategic partners such as the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

In stating this, he said various programmes have been conducted to provide social, welfare and education assistance to the community in the state throughout the years.

“It is one of our principals to work together with other departments and agencies to promote inclusivity to the community. In education, we will also be providing education scholarship as continuous effort over the years to deserving Sarawakian students.”

“We have previously assisted many young Sarawakians in education sponsorships where they were sent to learn special skills, and this was in collaboration with local learning institutions in Sarawak.

“In addition, we have conducted programmes on career development and awareness to students at various schools in the state.”

He said this during a press conference after the closing ceremony of the Community and Fire Point programme at Kampung Long Busang here yesterday (Feb 11).

On the Community and Fire Point programme organised in collaboration with Bomba Sarawak, Annuar said it is one of many that Petronas has embarked on with the department.

In 2019, the progamme was organised in Tatau and Sebauh with over 160 participants from the community taking part.

As for the Summer Camp programme which has been renamed ‘Kita Selamat’, it was organised in Miri last year with 60 representatives comprising village heads and community leaders of various races from Marudi and Miri participating.

“It is very clear how strong and committed Bomba Sarawak is in conducting these programmes which are often successful in engaging and transforming the community.

“We will continue to collaborate with Bomba Sarawak for programmes like this with the aim of providing basic fire safety and prevention knowledge and skills through simulation activities and demonstrations to participants,” he added.
