KUCHING: Phase Four of the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park is expected to be completed in April.

Deputy Chief Minister and Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said that he was told by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) deputy secretary Ir Goh Thiam Ho that the project would be open to the public by then.

“Phase Four of the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park is implemented under federal funding reinstated by the government under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin then after the project was KIV (keep in view) by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in 2018,” he said in a Facebook post.

He said the park project covering Kampung Rantau Panjang would be awarded to the successful contractor soon by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak (DID), which is the implementing agency.

“The ceiling cost for the project has increased from RM10 million to RM15 million due to a substantial increase in cost of materials last year,” he said.

Once all the five phases of the project is completed, he said, there will be a total of more than 2km of recreational facilities and economic opportunities for the local community from Kampung Rantau Panjang to the Batu Kawa Old Town.

“This is an iconic legacy project reflecting inclusiveness and we share developments with all races, in addition to the concepts of healthy living, and sustainable development,” he said.

In November last year, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the launch of Phase One and Phase Two of the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park, costing RM8.8 million and funded by the state government.

Apart from that, Dr Sim also said that Abang Johari had approved RM5 million for the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park Phase Three, which connects to the Phase Four and Phase Five of the park.
