LUNDU: A pick-up driver was killed on the spot following a two-vehicle collision near the Kelaoh junction yesterday (June 21).
The victim identified as Azirul Shamsul Tahir was pinned behind the wheel following the 12.10pm accident.
The van driver meanwhile managed to escape with minor injuries.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Lundu station were rushed to the scene, some 15km away, after receiving a distress call.
On arrival, they confirmed that the accident involved a pick-up truck and a Toyota Hiace van.
They managed to extricate the trapped victim out of the vehicle but he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The injured van driver, on the other hand, was given treatment before he was taken to the hospital for further attention.
