MIRI: Several proposals have been put forward to take Miri Port Authority (MPA) which is crucial to the nation’s economic development, particularly the city of Miri, to the next level.

The State government is aware of the significance and contribution of the port to the development of the state, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Port Development) Datuk Majang Renggi.

“Ports are for optimal transportation that allow access to land and waters, so our ministry has put forward several proposals for MPA in the 12th Malaysia Plan,” he said at the MPA 2022 Appreciation and Excellence Ceremony on July 29.

“Through these proposals, MPA will be able to increase the competitiveness and efficiency of their services, further stimulating industrial and economic development in the city of Miri, especially the northern part of Sarawak,” he explained.

He said the deepening of Kuala Baram has also been proposed under the 12MP to ensure the safety of every ship.

Meanwhile, he congratulated MPA on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas for organising the ceremony in appreciation of staff and all parties involved in the agency’s operations over the years.

The ceremony included recognition of MPA agencies, customers, and partners as well as awards for staff who have worked for the organisation for a long time.
