KUCHING: Police are investigating a viral video which captured an argument that unfolded in front of a commercial establishment along the Batu Kawa-Matang road on Feb 21.

Padawan police chief Supt. Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the video uploaded by Facebook user Arif Danial on Feb 22 shows footage, comprising two recordings, depicts a speeding vehicle and a gunshot sound in the first video and a distant argument involving multiple individuals in the second.

“On the same day around 10.06 pm, Padawan police received a report from a middle-aged informant in his 30s who alleged that the incident in the video was a physical argument between siblings and their friends.

“The informant suffered head injuries while fleeing and was treated as an outpatient at a private medical facility,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, with a potential penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Several suspects have been identified, and an operation, known as ‘Op Cantas’ has been initiated to arrest the suspects.

He urged the public to report any criminal activity that occurs in their area.

“This will ensure that investigations can be conducted promptly, rather than allowing such incidents to spread on social media. Individuals with information regarding this case are encouraged to come forward to assist in the investigation,” he added.
