KUCHING: Macgregor Maram Mamat earned the Director’s Award in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement during Politeknik Kuching Sarawak’s 27th convocation ceremony in Matang near here.

For the 28-year-old, he owed his success, among others, to his time management skills as well as juggling between his books and other activities.

“I am active in academic and non-academic activities. So I had to learn how to manage my time effectively even if my schedule is hectic.”

He said despite coming from an underprivileged family, this has not stopped him from giving his best to his studies.

“I want to improve my family’s standard of living. I want a better future for them and myself.

“My advice for those who are still studying is to stay focused as education is important. It can change a person’s life,” he said yesterday.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old twins Abang Khairul Rizduan and Abang Khairul Anwar also stressed that coming from an underprivileged family is not an excuse for not doing well academically.

They were the recipients of the Industry Special Award from MCP Resources Sdn Bhd.

“We come from a poor family and wish to help out as best as we can. So our struggle in life is for the sake of our mother.

“If given the chance, we want to start our own business one day,” the twins from Kg Hulu Lingga, Sri Aman said.
