KUCHING: The Samalaju Industrial Port (SIP) is urged to continue the efforts and initiatives to increase the efficiency of the port.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this is particularly in reducing the ship turnaround time and to focus on the main issues in ensuring the efficiency of the port.
“Good infrastructure including the port, play a major role in attracting investors to the state,” he said during his visit to the port yesterday.
According to Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB), following Uggah’s last visit to Samalaju Port and the lab organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) in March 2022, many initiatives have been implemented to enhance port operational efficiency.
It said some are still ongoing and as a dedicated port service provider, the port will work towards the goal which is to increase operational efficiency by having acceptable productivity that can deliver service satisfaction to both parties.
Earlier, Samalaju Industrial Port conducted briefing on the lab initiatives and operational performance to Uggah along with MIPD, Economic Planning Unit Sarawak (EPU), Regional Economic Corridor and Development Authority (RECODA), Samalaju Port Authority (SPA) and the investors.
Bintulu Port Group Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah stressed that they acknowledged all the concerns, adding; “We take them seriously when it comes to the port’s performance.
“Continuous engagement with the port users is important to improve the port efficiency and cooperation efforts.
“We will continue with ongoing initiatives to realise our operational excellence goals and to put in place additional initiatives from time to time in ensuring continuous improvement,” he said.
Also present at the visit were Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi; RECODA chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni; Permanent Secretary of MIPD Chiew Chee Yiew; Samalaju Port Authority Board of Directors and representatives from industries in SIP.
