KUCHING: Potential candidates are already marking their respective seats with many predicting that the state election will be held as early as next year.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP)Youth Central secretary-general, Milton Foo puts the matter to rest for Pending when he announced in his Facebook account that he will contest the Pending constituency in the state election which is only due in 2021.

When contacted by New Sarawak Tribune, Foo modestly said he was ready to fight in the election.

In his Facebook account, Foo specifically said he is going to contest in Pending and whether the ‘enemies’ were from Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) or Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), he was confident and ready to fight.

He stated that he will be facing Pending voters and not the candidates from the other parties.

Foo volunteers to contest in the Pending constituency.

Pending constituency is currently held by DAP’s Violet Yong. A three-term assemblywoman, she first contested in 2006 against SUPP secretary general and an assistant minister, Datuk Sim Kheng Hui. She won the seat and in the 2011 state election, she also won against Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is president of SUPP. In the last state election, she comfortably defeated Milton Foo with a bigger majority.

President of PSB, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh had stated in the Chinese media that he will have candidates contesting in all constituencies in Kuching. These are Padungan, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Batu Kitang, Batu Lintang and Pending. All these seats are traditionally contested by SUPP and DAP.

Wong is a six-term Bawang Assan assemblyman and was International Trade and E-commerce Minister and second Minister of Finance. He resigned recently from his posts as PSB is not a component of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak, GPS which comprises of Parti Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and SUPP.
