KUCHING: Practising good hand hygiene is still important, especially in the current climate where people are living under a new norm.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian pointed out that one of the major causes of infection is due to poor hand hygiene.

“The practice of good hand hygiene is so important because it’s not only applicable to hospitals and clinics, but also all sectors, from business to food catering and so on,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said this at the Hand and Healthcare Environmental Hygiene Seminar held at CRC Auditorium, Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), today (Jan 11).

SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Ung said proper hand hygiene is the most simple approach in infection prevention and control and called on all health practitioners to make hand washing a habit.

The seminar aimed at raising awareness, discussed best practices and explored the latest scientific research on how hand hygiene and proper environmental cleaning can have an impact on infection prevention and control in hospitals.
