KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to attend a dinner reception in conjunction with the
30th anniversary celebration of Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).

NREB deputy chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh said NREB is gearing up for a significant commemoration of its three-decade milestone, with the dinner scheduled for the middle of the year.

Len, who serves as Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, said the Premier is expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting the state’s environmental initiatives.

“The Premier will shed light on the state’s environmental initiatives and guide the attendees towards a collective commitment to the state’s aspirations.

“The dinner will be attended by members of the board, various departments, agencies, stakeholders, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), mass media, and the general public.

Mass media must emphasise its role in disseminating information to the population as a whole,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) 30th anniversary celebration at Menara Pelita here today.

As part of the extensive commemoration of the NREB’s 30th anniversary, the management has outlined a series of activities throughout 2024, involving stakeholders from across Sarawak.

Discussing the planned activities, Len emphasised the necessity for innovative approaches, stating that NREB is thinking “outside the box” to address environmental issues effectively.

As such, Len reaffirmed the board’s commitment to uphold the NREB’s role in enforcing environmental laws effectively and proactively addressing the diverse environmental issues and challenges in the state.

“As we celebrate this milestone, let us reflect on our accomplishments, express gratitude to those who have contributed to our success, and continue to brighten the flame that drives us forward.

“By 2030, we need the state to prosper and live in a clean environment, and at the same time, we need peace and harmony within the people,” he said.

Also present during the event were permanent secretary to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Zaidi Mahdi, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak Abang Ahmad Abang Morni and Sarawak environmental quality controller Jack Liam.
