Premises ordered to close for violating SOP

The enforcement team comprised of health officers, councillors, police officers and Rela personnel conducted an operation to ensure SOP compliance among business premises in Bandar Riyal, Kota Samarahan on Friday.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A premises here in Bandar Riyal, Kota Samarahan have been ordered to close down on Friday (June 19) after found to violate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) when carrying out its business.

Sarawak Environmental Health Officer Billy Sujang said that the directive was a result of an observation during an ‘Ops recovery movement control order (RMCO) SOP Compliance’ held in the area on Friday from 9.30am until 12pm.

He noted that the said premise was not following the SOPs set by the government such as recording customer’s personal details, cleaning and sanitising the premises and so on.

“Meanwhile, two foreigners working at a departmental store have been arrested for not having any valid permit and they were handed to Kota Samarahan police for further action.

“Apart from that, two notices were issued under Section 32B of the Food Act 1983 to two individuals for committing an offense under Rule 11 (1) (d) of the Tobacco Control Regulations (PPKHT) 2004 (Amendment 2018) for smoking in an eatery shop,” he said in a statement.

Billy noted that if convicted, both the accused (smokers) could be fined RM250 or taken to court for failure to pay the compound.

In the operation, he pointed out that a total of 34 premises have been inspected which included 17 retail outlets, 10 eateries, six barber shops and a supermarket.

“Such operation would continue in the state throughout the duration of RMCO to ensure SOP compliance and smoking prohibition are adhered with,” he said.

The operation on Friday involved a total of 24 personnel from the Health Ministry (MoH), Health District Office, District Police Headquarters, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, and the People Volunteer’s Corp (Rela).
