KUCHING: Every individual bears the responsibility to preserve nature and the environment.
Chairman of the Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) Datuk Peter Minos said that this attributes the current heat wave to human activities that have disrupted and degraded nature and the environment in the pursuit of progress and advancement.
“If we continue destroying plants and trees, emitting uncontrolled amounts of carbon dioxide, damaging hills and mountains, and polluting the air, streams, rivers, and seas, we will ultimately face self-destruction and certain calamity,” cautioned Minos.
“Before it is too late, let us take action by protecting our trees and plants, planting trees around us, safeguarding our green lungs, and putting a stop to the contamination of our air, rivers, and streams.”
Minos said this during his speech at the Rami Sayang Bumi The Greater Good programme organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) at the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC).
The event, held in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and the Forest Department, features activities such as seedling planting and mural painting.
“They have aided us at BBHC in ensuring the preservation and revitalization of the nature and environment in this region. The association is pleased that UNIMAS’ endeavours also align with our efforts to make Bung Bratak one of the green lungs near Kuching,” said Minos.
