WELLINGTON: The Duke of Cambridge will arrive in Auckland, New Zealand on April 25, or the Anzac Day, and will travel with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to Christchurch the following day to honour the victims of the March 15 attack, Xinhua news agency reported.

Ardern confirmed the schedule on Thursday, saying Prince William will meet police and ambulance officers dedicated to the aftermath of the attacks on Christchurch mosques in which 50 people were killed and dozens injured.

Prince William will also meet members of the Muslim community. He would represent the Queen during the visit.

Ardern said late last month that she welcomes the visit, adding, “I’m really pleased that Prince William can make a short visit to support those affected by the attack and pay tribute to the extraordinary compassion and solidarity that New Zealanders have displayed in recent weeks.”

Prince William has a strong connection with the people of the Canterbury region. He visited Christchurch after the earthquake in 2011.
