SIBU: A proper facility for petanque tournaments is needed to avoid any disruption, especially in the face of inclement weather.

According to Dr Annuar Ra’paee, he is currently working closely with Sibu Division Petanque Association to identify a piece of land for the construction of such a facility.

“At the moment, we do not have a proper arena and the place here (Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2) for competitions is temporary. We thank Sibu Municipal Council for allowing us to make use of the area.

“We have to identify a piece of land, build a covered arena to host tournaments so that games will not be interrupted by rain or shine,” said the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development.

The Nangka assemblyman spoke to the media after the Sarawak Central Zone petanque competition prize-giving ceremony last Sunday (Sept 18).

On the competition, Dr Annuar said about 49 teams from Sarawak and Sabah competed for honours from Sept 16-18.
