KUCHING: E-hailing drivers who have yet to register are advised to obtain the mandatory Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence before the three-month ‘soft-landing’ (monitoring and education) period expires on Oct 12.

State Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Syafiq Ana’s Abdullah said during this three-month period, educational approach to enforcement were made since July.

“This would allow drivers to have more time to apply for PSV licences.

“At this stage, we are in the midst of registering drivers under their respective E-Hailing Operator (EHO).

“Hope that by October we can enforce the new ruling simultaneously throughout the nation,” he said to reporters after flagging off the Merdeka Convoy at the state JPJ headquarters yesterday.

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the soft-landing approach allows e-hailing drivers who have not complied with the government’s rules and regulations are allowed to continue their operations for three months.

Meanwhile, e-hailing drivers who are caught without a PSV licence will be advised to comply with the regulations and given a final warning.
