Rain no damper as Premier goes CNY visiting

KUCHING: The heavy downpour certainly did not dampen the Chinese New Year (CNY) visiting spirit as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang visited more open houses today (Feb 11).

Commencing the second day of rainy visits, the Premier and his entourage arrived at Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang’s residence on Jalan Stapok Avenue around 10.50am.

Lo and his wife Margaret Lim, alongside Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, warmly welcomed Abang Johari and his entourage before ushering them into the house to partake in the traditional ‘yee sang’ tossing.

Accompanying Abang Johari were Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Seri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar, as well as Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Subsequently, the Premier visited the residence of Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii on Jalan Stampin Tengah.

Huang and his wife Datin Seri Law Yu Hui greeted Abang Johari and his entourage around 11.50am. before inviting them to partake in the ‘yee sang’ ritual.

Also in attendance at the Sarikei MP’s residence were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, and Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak president Datuk Richard Wee.

Later in the afternoon, Abang Johari and his entourage proceeded to the Kuching Teo Chew Association’s open house on Jalan Tabuan around 1pm.

Their arrival was warmly received by the association’s president Chiew Boon Shen, organising chairman Tan Kay Hock, deputy treasurer Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, and advisors See Chee How, Datuk Steven Ng Thian Yew, Datuk Wee Song Ching, and Temenggong Datuk Tan Joo Poi.

At the open house, Abang Johari was also invited to officiate at the association’s 160th anniversary celebration and sign a commemoration plaque.

Concluding the second day of CNY visits, Abang Johari and his entourage visited the residences of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak president Datuk Richard Wee.

In the days ahead, the Premier is scheduled to continue his Chinese New Year visits to Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu, where he will attend the open houses hosted by various politicians and businessmen.
