Raya reflects unity in diversity

KUCHING: Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the unity in diversity of the state.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the spirit of togetherness and understanding should be strengthened and nurtured over time in order to continue building a  more harmonious and inclusive society.

“I would like to remind everyone that we must be vigilant against any form of extremism, playing along with emotional manipulation or narratives, but instead to work together to promote empathy, compassion and mutual respect.

“We must stand united and resolute in our support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under the wise and visionary leadership of the Premier as we work together to achieve our vision of a develop state by the year 2030 as imbued in Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said in his speech during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house held at his residence in Petra Jaya here on Tuesday (May 2).

Earlier, Awang Tengah and his wife, Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud welcomed the arrival of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

During the open house, Abang Johari was presented with a bicycle made of steel bamboo from the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).

About 300 guests who attended the open house were feted to a variety of food and performances from local artists.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki and other dignitaries.
