KUCHING: A letter was handed over to the appointed contractor to rebuild the damaged roof of Bintawa Hawker Centre here, which is expected to be completed on Dec 24.

Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the appointed contractor commenced the works on Dec 4 and the completion is within three weeks.

“I have reminded the contractors to ensure that the implementation of the project is in accordance with the specification and the project to be completed on schedule.

“Moreover, I wish to express my gratitude to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian for promptly approving the allocation for the rebuilding purposes,” he said in a recent statement.

He also urged the elected representatives not to merely point fingers but to actively seek and implement solutions.

For the record, the roof of the hawker centre was damaged by the storm that hit the particular area on Nov 18.

Due to such severe damage to the roof, it has affected the hawkers’ daily business and the storm with strong winds and heavy rain caused a section of the roof at the hawker centre to be blown off and the debris scattered across the main road and adjacent premises.
