KUCHING: Redelineation in Petra Jaya and Santubong parliamentary constituencies are needed due to a significant increase in population.

Having said this, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof pointed out that the number of voters has surged to 140,000 in Petra Jaya.

“When we see it, these two Parliaments have three state legislative assemblies (DUN) under them and the size and population may increase much more in the near future.

“Therefore, I believe that redelineation in these two parliaments is needed so that the MPs can better serve the people,” he said.

He said this when speaking to reporters after handing over the Petra Jaya Parliament grant to mosques and suraus at Darul Hana Mosque, Kampung No 6 here last night (Feb 18).

The Petra Jaya MP proposed a reconsideration of the redelineation to divide the constituencies into three parliamentary areas, each with two DUNs under them.

“With it being split up as such, it will surely be more effective for us to serve the people better,” he said.
