KUCHING: The reopening of businesses may not be all bad in order to save the nation’s economy, as far as only the green zones are concerned.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman Larry Sng Wei Shien said the federal government is opening the country for business because the country can’t afford to prolong the negative economic impact due to movement control order (MCO) implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“This does not mean in any way that it is safe for people to go out. However, my suggestion is to relax the MCO only in green areas.

“Non-essential businesses should remain closed for now,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted yesterday.

Larry, who is also Julau MP, was responding to the state government’s decision to maintain the status quo on MCO and not open businesses as announced by the federal government recently.

According to him, the state government is taking a harsh approach on MCO which doesn’t permit people from moving about including in green zones.

“I believe that the government should consider relaxing the MCO in green zones,” he continued.
