Remember Sarawak rights, aspirations, PM-8 told

KUCHING: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah hopes that new Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, will not forget Sarawak’s rights and aspirations.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Women chief was commenting on the appointment of Muhyiddin as the eighth prime minister of Malaysia yesterday.

“As stated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, we will support whoever is appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The country must come first.

“When things go wrong, uncertainty must be resolved immediately. Investors’ confidence and the people’s desire and aspirations for political stability must be given priority,” she said.

Fatimah acknowledged Muhyiddin as a veteran politician who has held several portfolios in the previous governments.

“He is a firm and honest man. We pray that he will be given health and wellbeing, a high degree of wisdom to select capable Cabinet members to restore Malaysia’s performance back to its glory days.

“At the same time, do not forget the aspirations and rights of the people of Sarawak and treat us accordingly,” she reminded.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday evening appointed the Pagoh MP as the new prime minister, ending days of political uncertainty after the collapse of Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

The appointment was announced by the comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin who said the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong has appointed Muhyiddin as prime minister in accordance to Article 40(2)(a) and Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

Muhyiddin will be sworn in at the Istana Negara later today (March 1).
