MIRI: Despite the announcement of stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the conditional movement control order (CMCO), people can still be seen moving around freely and thronging shopping malls here.

Bintang Megamall has restructed children below the age of 12 from entering the premises.

Based on a brief observation by New Sarawak Tribune today (May25), security personnel were posted to mall entrances to conduct health screenings on every visitor.

Visitors are required to register with the MySejahtera app before they were allowed to enter the premises.

Majority of the tenants inside shopping malls complied with the SOPs and one of the fast food restaurants was filled with customers and food delivery riders, waiting for their takeaways or to deliver food to customers.

With the current situation, the government has reminded parents countless of times to refrain themselves from bringing their children to shopping malls.

In fact, minister-in-charge of Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin recently advised parents or guardians to keep their children at home to avoid any exposure to Covid-19.

Unfortunately, regardless of the reminder, some parents could still be seen bringing their children to shopping malls.

A security guard at one of the shopping malls here, when met, said he has tried to advise parents to not bring their children who are below the age of 12 to shopping malls.

“Some parents understand the precautionary measures, while some are difficult to manage,” he said.
