MIRI: Repair work for the drainage system at Taman Awam Miri has been completed.

The Miri City Council’s (MCC) Landscaping Division had cleared the debris and dead fish found along the stretch of the drainage system, a statement said Friday (Jan 14).

MCC also clarified that the drainage system was actually a rainwater retention section, not a fish pond.

“It serves to collect and retain a huge volume of rainwater coming down from the hill slope and adjacent drainage system at the higher ground during downpour.

“Only then, the drain water would gradually flow down to adjoining drainage (the man-made stream).”

MCC also stated that the source from where the school of fish gathered was from other connecting drains and hill slopes.

MCC also noted that the drainage at the particular stretch was being designed in such a way to provide added aesthetic value to the surrounding landscape.
