MIRI: The purported directive from the Education Ministry barring Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) lawmakers from speaking at events held in schools in Sarawak is ridiculous and disrespectful, said Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“They’re doing it in Sarawak and not in Malaya or Sabah,” he lamented. He added that this was creating a very unhealthy situation because “GPS is also the government”.

Met after attending St Joseph Primary School’s award presentation ceremony yesterday, Lee questioned, “Is the federal government under Pakatan Harapan (PH) bringing politics into schools? “Is the Ministry of Education really serious talking about good quality of education?” he asked.

Lee added, “We come to schools to help with funding and every year, I have been helping the schools because we are concerned about our children’s education…can the federal government fund all the schools in Sarawak?”

Lee called on the federal  government to be objective and professional when in dealing with children’s education and to put aside political differences.

“How can we become a developed nation with this kind of policy?” On the award presentation, Lee said as a former student of the school, he had never forgotten to give back as a way of showing his gratitude.
