LINGGA: The Lingga riverbank development project currently being implemented will change the landscape of Lingga town and add to its special features alongside the Batang Lupar river.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Lingga will no longer be a hidden town after the state government agreed to connect it with the outside areas through several road projects that will be implemented.

“This is especially with the construction of the Sebuyau-Lingga road which is currently in the handing over stage to the contractor and will be implemented in the near future.

“All these projects will change the development landscape in Lingga which has its own characteristics, facing Batang Lupar,” he said.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources and Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industry Terminal and Entrepreneur Development, said this when met by reporters after visiting the Lingga riverbank development project site here yesterday (Jul 25).

He explained that the development would provide premises for business people in addition to recreational facilities.

“After this, Lingga will be connected with Sebuyau. InsyaAllah Lingga will be easily accessible upon the implementation of the Second Trunk Road and the Sarawak Coastal Road.

“Even now it is connected to Sri Aman through improved road access. Unlike before, basic facilities are already available. This place will be a stopover.

“I believe this is an opportunity for Lingga to be developed and an opportunity for the local community to get involved in the field of entrepreneurship,” he said.

He added that the Sarawak government will implement the project in stages and continue to strive in improving other facilities such as the Lingga Service Centre for the convenience of the people.

Awang Tengah stated that the Lingga riverbank development project will go through three phases.

“The first phase, which is already underway at a cost of RM3.9 million, is expected to be completed on May 6, 2021. Its status is at 22 percent completion. After that, it will continue onto the next phase.
