MIRI: The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) has announced a RM2.24 million allocation for the construction of 28 new fishermen’s houses in Sarawak as part of the Fishermen Housing Special Project (PKPN).

LKIM chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said this initiative, commencing next year, aims to improve living conditions for local fishermen.

“From 2021 to 2023, 71 fishermen’s houses have been constructed in Sarawak, involving a total allocation of RM5.30 million,” said Muhammad Faiz during the handover ceremony of the new houses to the beneficiaries at Kampung Kuala Sibuti today (Dec 17).

He also highlighted the repair of 4,735 fishermen’s houses, an endeavour that has been supported with a budget of RM53.5 million.

The project beneficiaries are members of the Miri Fishermen’s Association (PKN), actively engaged in the fishing industry.

“Each house in this project is allocated RM80,000, totalling RM240,000 for the three houses,” he added.

The construction, which began on August 10 and concluded on October 23, was a collaborative effort led by three main project leaders: Miri PKN, Kabong PKN, and Bruit PKN.
