SERIAN: A total of RM200 million has been allocated for the development of the Serian Administrative Complex.

The project is sited on a 32-acre land located near the Serian Fire Station at the Serian-Tangga Bypass.

The symbolic earth-breaking ceremony of the complex was performed by the Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg during the Pesta Birumuh held at the Serian Stadium Mini here yesterday.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and State Secretary Tan Sri Haji Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.

Speaking at the event, Johari said the complex would be the key to economic growth in Serian Division.

“Serian was officially declared the 12th Division of Sarawak by the former Chief Minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“It was his vision that with this complex, the aspirations of the Bidayuh community here, who have been hard working and significant to the peace in Sarawak, could be fulfilled. No, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke; this is for real,” said Johari.

“This project will utilise the mixed-use development spread over 145 acres of land and is estimated to have a gross development value of RM600 million.

“This project will be implemented within the same proximity as the Administrative Centre and Conference Centre, hence making commercial project essential to visitors and government servants’ needs,” said Johari.

The administrative centre will comprise six-storey office complex, cascading downward to a two-storey office connected to a block of a double-storey lobby and exhibition hall.

It will house many state government’s divisional offices and act as a one-stop centre for the public; similar to the concept of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

The complex will be incorporating iconic design, featuring ‘baruk’ architecture and also a ‘design-for-maintenance’ concept which focuses on reduction of operating costs, energy saving and environmental consideration. The project will be completed within two and half years.

The conference centre project will be located adjacent to the administrative centre where the main hall (3,180 square metres), will be able to accommodate 2,000 guests.

It will also have exhibition areas, conference rooms, cafeteria, covered car parking space of 140 bays (basement), 380 bays of open parking space and an open foodcourt. The centre will also be equipped with lift facility for disabled patrons.

The conference centre is also complementary to the New Serian Township Extension that is currently in its initial stage. The project will be implemented in stages within eight to 10 years.

Also in attendance during the Pesta Birumuh were Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong, Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem and Minister of Public Utilities Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Utom.
