KUCHING: A playground anchored on the concept of fun and learning, complete with digital features and AI technology, will be developed at a cost of RM2 million under a pilot project here.

The project, which is the first of its kind to be implemented in Sarawak, will be developed in an open area near Taman Heritage, Petra Jaya with an emphasis on community identity development.

Implemented through a collaboration between Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Unimas Holdings Sdn Bhd, construction work on the playground is expected to start this year.

Interim Chairman of Unimas Holding Sdn Bhd, Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abd Rahman, said the company does not only provide education services but also development activities that can provide added value to the community.

“Among them is this programme where we develop open spaces to make the city of Kuching more beautiful, smart, clean and sustainable.

“The newest aspect, by implementing the concept of a learning and modern playground, is for our community of all ages to have recreation while spending free time with family and so on,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between DBKU and Unimas Holdings Sdn Bhd witnessed by Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi on Tuesday (Feb 21).

Unimas Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development Dean, Amalia Madihie, explained that the project would emphasise human development, specifically identity, and target the Y and Z Generations.

“So we develop a physical playground with digital features and AI technologies.

“This park will apply all those elements with the concept of fun learning so that it is suited for all levels of society,” she said.

She added the project, which may take five years to finish, will start this year if sponsors provide enough funds.

“We have started looking for sponsors who can provide allocations this year. It is hoped that the project can be started within this year.

“RM1 million is projected for the playground building while the remainder is for operating costs and so forth,” she said.
