SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has invested RM300,000 in constructing the Bandong Fitness Park in the Nangka constituency to encourage a healthier lifestyle among the community.

The park features a dedicated path for public use, particularly catering to senior citizens, for exercise and walking. Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee expressed plans for further enhancements to the park.

“I have proposed adding seating, reading spaces, and a children’s playground. I will assist the council in upgrading facilities, especially adding an outdoor gym,” he said at the SMC tree planting campaign at the park here today.

A total of 15 saplings were planted at the park in conjunction with the campaign. The Nangka assemblyman called upon the public to fully utilise the park’s facilities while emphasising the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

“Together, as a community, it is our responsibility to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of this area.

“I suggest residents also plant flowers to make it more vibrant. This site belongs to the people, and we must have a sense of ownership to maintain and utilise it properly,” he said.
