MIRI: The Sarawak government has set aside RM300,000 to fund the clearing of land for the new Kampung Kiput site in Tebuing, Kuala Tutoh Baram.
Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour,Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said the area is being rebuilt after it suffered damage from a 2017 landslide.
He confirmed that the land-clearing work is in progress.
“Of the 74 homes affected, 23 were severely damaged in the incident. The villagers have consented to relocate to the new site, which is close to their former homes,” Gerawat said during the unveiling of the village’s miniature project planning on Friday evening.
He further added, “The decision to relocate came at an opportune time. Shortly after the decision was made, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg approved the construction of roads connecting Miri to Marudi, Marudi to Mulu (Kuala Melinau), and Long Panai to Long Lama. These roads will be accessible from the new village location.”
The new village site spans approximately 40 acres.
“With the upcoming roads,” Gerawat added, “It’ll be easier to install electricity poles and set up water distribution systems.”
Also present were Kampung Kuala Tutoh’s village chief, Moses Belulok, and Deputy Miri Division Resident, Juan Abit.
