MIRI: The newly built covered walkway at Krokop Chung Hua National (C) Primary School here will benefit its students and staff members once it opens.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said he frequented the school during several occasions such as disinfection activity and the handing over of hand sanitisers.

“When I was there, the school board members and headmistress brought up how inconvenient it was for everyone whenever it rained.

“Parents had to walk their children into school or drive up to the gate, while teachers had to wait at the school gate with an umbrella to transfer the children to the school building.

“Therefore, the school proposed for a covered walkway so that once the students arrived at the school, they can go straight into building on their own.

“At the same time, this would subsequently reduce the traffic congestion,” he added.

He said this to New Sarawak Tribune in a phone conversation after declaring open the walkway at the school on Monday (Dec 21).
