KUCHING: A new non-governmental organisation (NGO), Persatuan Pemaju Pendidikan Anak Sarawak (PPPAS) was approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) today.
In early November, a group of friends took the initiative to form this NGO with the main objective of inculcating interest and usage of the English language among the primary and junior secondary schools in Sarawak.
A protem committee was formed with members including chairman Datuk Mohd Marzuki Omar, deputy chairman Hamdan Sarbini, secretary Aldin Balia, and others.
On Thursday, Mohd Marzuki and his protem committee paid a courtesy call to Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, who agreed to be the organisation’s advisor.
The newly-formed NGO supports the state government’s initiatives to set up its own international schools to produce competitive students with a good command of the English language.
“The international schools will no longer be for those who can afford it but for any Sarawakian who meets the selection criteria,” noted PPPAS in a statement today.
The NGO will organise activities such as spelling bees, story-telling, speech competitions, short story competitions, essay competitions, and so on.
