SIBU: The United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Boards of Management is appealing for public support for its Run for Chinese Education.

The run, slated for 6am on Nov 2, will start and end at the town square.

“We are organising this run to raise funds. It is one of the numerous activities held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the association,” board chairman Temenggong Vincent Lau told a press conference yesterday.

The other activities include the anniversary dinner, a stage drama and construction of a mini museum to showcase materials related to Chinese education. All these will happen in June next year.

Involved in organising the run are United Chinese Association Sibu, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sarawak 7 Clans Association, Taiwan Graduates Association and Third Division Chinese Independent School Alumni Association.

The run is divided into three categories of students and teachers, NGO (both 5km) and open category of 7km. Entry fee for the students, teachers and NGO categories is RM10 per person while the open category is set at RM50. The closing date is on Oct 15.

“We are targeting a total of 3,000 participants and each participant would be given a T-shirt which is to be worn for the run,” he added.

Prizes for the first two categories are RM300 for first place winners, second RM200, third RM100 and 17 consolation prizes of RM30 each.

The winner for the open category stands to receive RM500, second RM300 and third RM200 while the 17 consolation winners will get RM50 each.
