LUNDU: Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom has set his sights on transforming Loba Stoh Rambungan into a thriving shrimp belt.

He stated that downstream products, processing, and more need to be created through this industry to make it a primary shrimp farming area, similar to the Empurau belt in Kapit, Tapah belt (Bintulu), and others.

“The endeavour to elevate this location into an Aquaculture Industrial Zone (AIZ) has been a longstanding aspiration, and now we see the promising potential for it to materialise.

“The efforts of Rambungan Aqua Life Sdn Bhd, involving cooperation between the Sarawak State Farmers’ Organisation (PPNS) and Sea Horse Corporation Sdn Bhd, will pave the way for a brighter future for the shrimp farming industry,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the release of shrimp fry at Loba Stoh Rambungan, Jalan Sampadi Lundu today (Oct 2).

Dr. Rundi pointed out that this industry has the potential to yield approximately RM300 million in profits within a year.

And 7,000 hectares of land would be required to achieve profits of up to RM1 billion.

“Hence, there is plenty of land that can be used to develop this industry, not just in Kuching, but also in Tanjung Manis, Limbang, Lawas, and so on,” he said while assuring support for the development of the industry.

In light of this, he advised farmers and shrimp farmers to focus on enhancing productivity, quantity and quality.

He stressed the importance of ensuring the sustainability and excellence of the entire supply chain.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, who is also the chairman of PPNS, and the Chief Executive Officer of Rambungan Aqua Life Sdn Bhd, Sim Ing Jye.
