KUCHING: More sports facilities will be developed in new Samariang town to keep its community spiritually and physically fit.

Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the proposed facilities included takraw, pétanque, volleyball and netball courts.

According to him, the development of these sports facilities is important for people of all ages.

He said this when addressing the 2020 Bandar Baru Samariang GPS-PBB ‘One Park One Heart’ (Satu Taman Satu Hati) Carnival here yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Hall), said the development of sports facilities could also encourage young people to live a healthy lifestyle.

He praised the PBB Bandar Baru Samariang branch for organising a carnival for people of all ages.

“Carnivals like this are important in strengthening the relationships between communities,” he added.
